Content safety

A keepsake book is a family product

Almost everything people say to each other belongs in a book. A few things do not, and the builder makes sure they stay out. Here is exactly where the line is.

Blocked. Cannot be included.

  • Sexual content involving minors, in any form
  • Illegal sexual content
  • Exploitative or non-consensual sexual material

Excluded, because this is family-safe

  • Explicit adult sexual imagery
  • Highly explicit sexting

Intimate conversations between adults are welcome. Explicit imagery and highly explicit sexting are not, so that every book can sit on a family shelf.

Not blocked

  • Affection, flirting and love letters between adults
  • Family talk, arguments included
  • Medical conversations, diagnoses and difficult news
  • Grief, loss and the messages sent around a death
  • Relationship memories, breakups and reconciliations
  • Mental health, addiction and recovery
  • Ordinary photos of children: birthdays, holidays, bath time with a towel, the beach
  • Swearing, slang and the way people actually talk

How it works

A check that never sees the inside of your life

Because the whole book is built in your browser, the safety check is too. It is the same privacy promise as the rest of the service.

  1. The check runs on your device

Just before the book is generated, the builder scans the text and photos you selected. The scan happens in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere to be checked.

  2. Flagged items are shown to you

Each flagged message or photo is listed with the reason it was flagged. You can see exactly what was caught and why.

  3. You remove them and continue

Take the flagged items out of the selection and the book proceeds. Blocked material cannot be included; there is no override.

  4. Nothing is retained by us

Rejected material was never uploaded, so there is nothing for us to keep, review or report on. It stays on your device until you delete it.

Honest limits

Automated checks are not perfect

The scan can miss things and it can occasionally flag something harmless. If an ordinary photo is flagged, you can remove it and continue, or email us so we can improve the check.

Because the check is not perfect, you also confirm at checkout that you have the right to use the content and that it complies with the Terms. The responsibility for what goes in a book rests with the person making it.

Report a concern

Tell us if something is wrong

If you believe the service has been used to make a book containing blocked material, or you have a concern about the safety rules, email sentimentalpath@gmail.com with the subject line “Safety concern”. Describe what you saw and, if you have it, the order id. We take every report seriously and reply to each one.

If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. In the United States you can also report child sexual abuse material to the NCMEC CyberTipline.
